Promotional Writing: Study Abroad
Written By Tara Berry
In the Office of International Education at Georgia Tech, we wanted our information to be consistent across all platforms. The Calendar Introduction below was text we placed online and in other printed assets, but updated with information about the Photo Contest we sponsored annually–a way to be a part of future study abroad calendars (printed and distributed free to all GT students).
Welcome to the 2012 Study Abroad Calendar
All Georgia Tech students have a world of opportunity awaiting them through Tech’s international programs. No matter what a student majors in, studying abroad can give experience that is useful for a lifetime –academically, socially, and professionally. The variety of offerings allows students to choose programs that fit into their academic curriculum, their comfort level, and their budget.
The Georgia Tech Office of International Education (OIE) has programs that range from a few weeks to a full year. The two main types of programs are exchange and faculty-led programs. With exchange programs, students enroll for a semester or academic year at a partner university. Tech has more than eighty exchange programs in more than twenty-five countries; depending on the program, students can study in English or the language of their host country.
For faculty-led programs, GT professors go abroad with groups of students and teach courses in an international setting. These programs usually take place during the summer and last four to twelve weeks. Georgia Tech offers more than thirty faculty-led programs in countries around the world. Tech also has a campus in France – Georgia Tech Lorraine – where students can take classes in English during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters.
When students return from their study abroad experiences, they and the international students who are at Tech have the opportunity to enter OIE’s annual photo contest. In 2011, over 100 photos were submitted. The pictures in this calendar are just a small sample of those incredible entries. OIE is grateful to all of the student photographers who used their talents to share their international travels and their U.S. experiences with us.
Thank you for your support!
